Put one on a backflow burner in the evening and watch what the smoke does: instead of rising it pours down over the stand and pools on the table like water. The scent is coconut and mango, sweet and warm, the kind that makes a room feel like somewhere else for half an hour.
Spiritual meaning
Both fruits belong to ritual in India. The coconut is the offering broken open at the start of something new, and mango leaves are strung above doorways at weddings and festivals as a sign of welcome and good fortune. The blend itself is modern rather than traditional, but the idea underneath is old: sweetness offered to a space before you settle into it.
How to use
- These cones need a backflow burner: the hollow channel through the middle is what carries the smoke downwards.
- Light the tip, let it flame for a few seconds, blow it out, then set the cone over the hole in the burner.
- Keep it out of draughts, or the smoke will rise instead of falling.
- Use a heat-resistant surface, air the room, and never leave a burning cone unattended.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
