You are blending your own perfume oil at the desk and reach for the third distillation, Ylang Ylang III, instead of the earlier fractions you already have on the shelf. Steam-distilled from the same Cananga odorata flowers grown on the Comoros, this 50ml bottle is drawn later in the long distillation process, giving it its own place in a blend alongside the earlier cuts.
Symbolism
In parts of Indonesia, ylang ylang flowers were traditionally scattered on the bed of newly married couples, a custom tied to the flower's long association with romance and celebration. That same association carries over into how the oil is used in perfumery today.
How to use
- Add two to three drops to a diffuser, or dilute well in a carrier oil for the skin.
- Patch test on a small area first.
- Use sparingly, as high concentrations can cause headaches in some people.
