On a quiet afternoon, a drop or two of Turmeric Essential Oil in the diffuser brings a warm, spicy, earthy scent into the room, closer to the smell of the fresh root than to the ground spice from the kitchen. It is steam distilled from the rhizome of Curcuma longa grown in India, the same plant behind the golden spice, though the essential oil is used for its aroma rather than as a food ingredient.
Energetic properties
Turmeric has a long history in Ayurvedic tradition, where the root itself is treated as a grounding, warming plant. As an essential oil, it carries that same warm, woody character into aromatherapy blends, and many people diffuse it for a cosy, centring atmosphere on cooler days.
How to use
- Add 2-3 drops to a diffuser for a warm, spiced scent.
- Dilute well in a carrier oil before any skin contact, and patch test first, since turmeric oil can mark light fabrics and some skin.
