Taller than the bowls in this range, this vase is formed from hand-blown recycled glass melted directly onto a natural Gamal wood base, made in Bali. Its height makes it suited to floor-standing display or a low table, rather than a narrow shelf. The glass settles into the wood's own shape as it cools, so no two vases share exactly the same base.

Symbolism

Balinese craftspeople see the vertical form of a piece like this as giving the glass more room to show its own flow before it set, a visible record of the moment it was shaped. Many people find that sense of movement, captured and held still, part of the appeal of hand-blown glasswork. Paired with a wood base shaped by growth rather than a mould, this vase brings together two very different kinds of natural process.

How to use
