You might reach for this oil at the end of the day, when you want the room to smell soft and familiar before sleep. Lavender essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tips of Lavandula angustifolia grown in Bulgaria, and its scent is gentle, floral and easy to recognise.
Spiritual meaning
Lavender has been used since antiquity, when the Egyptians and Romans valued it for bathing and relaxation. In aromatherapy tradition it is associated with calm and restful sleep, and many people add a few drops to pillows or bedding as part of a bedtime routine.
How to use
- Add 3-5 drops to an oil burner or diffuser
- Dilute in a carrier oil before any skin contact and patch test first
- Add a few drops to bath water for a relaxing soak
