Energetic properties
Clearing smoke is one of the oldest ideas in household ritual: in many traditions, fragrant smoke is carried through a space to mark a fresh start. Incense blends named for clearing are traditionally chosen when a room has hosted an argument, a long illness or a lot of visitors, and many people also burn them before meditation, journalling or tarot so the space feels neutral again. The gesture matters as much as the scent.
How to use
- Set the plain end of the stick in an incense holder or a heatproof bowl filled with sand.
- Light the tip, wait a few seconds, then extinguish the flame so only the ember remains.
- Place the holder on a heat-resistant surface, well away from anything that can catch light.
- Ventilate the room during and after burning, and never leave the stick unattended.
- Keep away from children and animals, and store the remaining sticks in a dry place.
